An annual event to the Horticulture industry of Eastern and Central Africa. Organised and managed by ECO Ltd in conjunction with HPP of Amsterdam, Holland.
This is an exhibition for suppliers to the Horticulture industries of East and Central Africa. Horticulture is Kenya's fastest growing export and foreign exchange earner.
In 2000 Kenya exported nearly 100,000 tons of fresh produce. Flowers represented about 40% of this total weight. This represented Kshs14 billion in foreign exchange earnings (Approx. US$180 million).
Kenya is the largest exporter of flowers to the Dutch auctions and the flow continues to increase at about 5% per year. In 2001/2 an additional 200 hectares of flower production has be initiated in Kenya alone. This growth saw Horticulture become Kenya's leading export business last year.
Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania all have flourishing horticulture industries and Ethiopia is just now expanding. All these look to be following in Kenya's impressive footsteps.
